If you have not turned in your hours for July, we need them! August hours need to be turned in no later than September 7th. You may report hours in several ways. You can call or email us! It’s that simple. For email please list the agency or agencies where you are volunteering and the hours you volunteered for the month. You may report all of your volunteer service hours at non-profit and public agencies, as well as care hours you provide to other seniors living at home for transportation, food and meals, home care, driving to and from your volunteer job and for training purposes. If you would like us to call you each month to ask for your monthly hour report, please tell us and we will add you to our list of other volunteers who prefer to be called! Help!!!! Please ask your friends to help as well, it is an amazing experience! What: Poverty Simulation at OSU-Tulsa on Friday, September 6th from 8:30 to noon. Event Description: Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families. But unless you've experienced poverty, it's difficult to truly understand. The simulation is an interactive immersion experience. It sensitizes community participants to the realities of poverty. As a volunteer you, will play the role of a community member for the participants. (IE: The social worker, the teacher, the employer, the grocery store clerk, etc.) For more information regarding the simulation, please visit this link: http://www.povertysimulation.net/about/ Training will be provided before the simulation begins. Just attend a 30 minute judge training session at the beginning of your shift and be willing to provide support and encouragement to young people learning a new skill! Discovery Lab/Tulsa Children’s Museum, will be hosting a great event “Circus! The Exhibition”. This is a big top tent exhibition that explores math and science through the lens of traditional circus activities. If you love math, science and fun, there will be several fun opportunities for you to help facilitate the Circus Exhibit experiences. You will be volunteering on the museum floor alongside museum educators and education assistants to support guests of the museum. This exhibit comes to the museum in early September (dates TBA) and will be here for several months. Volunteers interested who would love to help, the shifts are flexible and can be regular, occasional or just whenever you’d like to come. Museum location is in Owen Park, 560 N Maybelle Ave. Background checks will be done by the museum. Hours Monday through Saturday: 9am to 5pm. The Salvation Army is gearing up for their busiest time of the year and are in need of volunteers! Listed below are the opportunities that will be coming up before you know it! If you can help with these events, they can use the extra hands. 6LONG STANDING TULSA COUNTY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES :4 hours/week and sometimes every other week, depending upon needs of the agency or the volunteer, by agreement.Tulsa cares is currently looking for volunteers for several positions. Either Mon., Tues., Thurs., or Fri. 9am to noon or 1pm to 3pm. 2. Kitchen Assistant – Assist food program manager with prep, serving and clean up of weekly congregate meal held each Tuesday from 9-noon or noon to 3pm. 3. Reception assistant – greet clients, contact staff about appointment, answer phones. Every Wed. 9am to 1pm or 1pm to 5pm.Good Samaritan Health Services is a nonprofit organization changing our community through mobile health care clinics for the uninsured. They currently have over 49 monthly clinics at 12 locations throughout the Tulsa metro. They are in need of several positions throughout the county as follows: Sapulpa -Site Coordinator. They have partnered with the First Baptist Church in Sapulpa and are needing a site coordinator for that location. This will be the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Wednesday of every month. Clinic opens at 4pm and usually closes at 8:30pm. Sand Springs – Check-in helpers. (non-nursing). They have partnered with Church That Matters at 3 W 41st St. You will help greet patients and see that they are checked in properly. The clinics in Sand Springs are the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month from 4:30pm until approximately 8:00pm. 7If you’d like to join them for a clinic tour, dates are as follows: Thursdays: Sept 12, Oct. 24, Nov. 21st and Dec. 5th at Common Ground Church, 7810 E 49th St (Fontana Shopping Center) Meals on Wheels Broken Arrow is currently looking for a Monday coordinator. This coordinator will volunteer every other Monday at the BA site, 12620 E 31st from 9am to 11am. You will be opening up the kitchen and helping pack prepared meals into insulated totes. You may need to call in volunteers as needed for substitutes, etc. You will also be responsible for signing volunteers in and out. Basic computer skills needed and able to work independently every other Monday from 9am to 11am. They are also looking for volunteer drivers!! You will be delivering meals directly to elderly and homebound clients. A delivery route typically takes about an hour in the morning and helps ensure that a neighbor in need isn’t left hungry or alone. Multiple locations throughout the Tulsa metro where you meet up to help a site coordinator pack and deliver these meals. Most volunteers serve one morning a week for 1-2 hours. Contact us for a referral! Joy in the Cause currently recruiting office help at their 39th and Harvard location. You will be calling volunteers to see if they are still wanting to volunteer and documenting. You may be taking in-kind donations, stuff & addressing envelopes, sorting, making copies, etc. It can be quiet, so you may bring a book or kindle with you when it’s slow. They are needing help Monday through Friday, any time between the hours of 10am and 3pm. If you can help out any of those days and even for a few hours, they can use you! They are also looking for help with specific projects in their “sowing room” which means “sowing seeds of kindness.” There they make crafts, dress the dogs (their mascots), make tutus for the dogs and help sort fabric. They can also teach you to sew if you’re interested. 8Cancer Treatment Centers Tulsa has a fun request for artists. If you like to paint and would like to be involved with this wonderful facility, let us know. They are looking for one or two people to help form a “Pinot’s Palette” type experience for their guests. They are also always recruiting for Lobby Greeters anytime. If you have some time and would like to help out in the lobby, contact us! South 81st and Highway 169. Here is a link to their E-Newsletter too. http://www.okmhc.org.9TULSA AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM & PLANETARIUM - TASM is currently looking for volunteers for several positions: Volunteers needed to come in whenever they have time during the museum’s hours to help out with light duties such as wiping fingerprints off displays, dusting exhibits, etc. Even if you could only stay an hour or two, they would be grateful for any help. Other volunteers are still needed for varying shifts on the floor and for special events. Training and a TASM shirt will be provided. The museum is planning an extension involving a new hangar that will double the current space and will include a restaurant and classrooms. Experience in the aviation field is helpful but not a requirement. Ambassadors work four-hour shifts one day per week to provide hospitality and info services to airline passengers at three information desks or work three-hour shifts roaming the terminal. Ambassadors offer goodwill and a vital community service by promoting a positive community image while also providing assistance to military personnel, passengers and the general public. Free parking, uniforms, and other volunteer recognition events for volunteers! Volunteers are in short supply for the Fri-Sat-Sun shifts. Can you help? With new exhibits recently opened, they can always use additional help. Must be able to commit to one -4 hour shift per week preferably on the same day each week. Bring a friend and help greet guests in their newly remodeled lobby. Lobby hours are 8am to 4pm and they can use help for 4 hour shifts any time during the hours the lobby is open. They are particular needing help in the mornings. You will be seated at the desk. If you can, there may be a few times when you might need to walk someone to an area for directional purposes. But it’s not required.Laureate is STILL looking for volunteers to help man their information desk in the outpatient clinic. You will be greeting patients and visitors, provide directions and give out information regarding Laureate. There are several shifts available and listed below: Front Desk/Outpatient Clinic: Mondays (1st, 3rd & 5th of the month) from 8:00 until noon Mondays (every) from noon until 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays (every) from 8:00 a.m. until noon Thursdays (every) from 8:00 a.m. until noon Laureate can also use volunteers in their Visitor Check-in area on the following days and times: Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. and/or 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. There is a required 1.5 hour orientation.
